The sisters—Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma Khan—were detained under 30-day preventive orders ahead of a major protest march organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party. Their families have now turned to the Lahore High Court, filing petitions to demand access for lawyers and relatives, as well as the delivery of essential medicines, which they claim have been blocked by authorities.
Legal counsel for the family, Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar, filed applications after reports surfaced that the women were being held incommunicado. This legal maneuver follows the Lahore High Court’s earlier refusal to suspend the detention notifications issued just before the September 27 demonstrations. Meanwhile, Kasim Khan maintains that the state's crackdown on his family is part of a broader, politically motivated effort to suppress democratic dissent, asserting that the Pakistani public continues to protest despite ongoing intimidation and the imprisonment of the former prime minister at Adiala Jail.
