Sharma defended the Election Commission’s initiative by citing Article 324 of the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act, 1950. He noted that the revision has been conducted 12 times previously, often under Congress administrations. The BJP leader suggested that if the party truly suspects 'vote theft' and duplicate registrations, they should cooperate with the cleanup rather than agitating against it. He dismissed the current protests as a diversionary tactic aimed at masking the government’s declining popularity and recent electoral setbacks.
Targeting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Sharma questioned the propriety of a sitting head of state protesting against constitutional institutions outside Raj Bhavan. He challenged the Chief Minister's moral standing regarding Electronic Voting Machines, asking if Sukhu would resign if he truly believed the electoral process was compromised. Furthermore, Sharma condemned the Congress demand for the arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, calling the move an insult to a constitutional office and a dangerous precedent in democratic governance.
