Yogi Adityanath honors Ram Vilas Paswan on sixth death anniversary

Fifty years after he first emerged as a national voice for the marginalized, the late Ram Vilas Paswan was remembered Thursday for a legacy that continues through his son, Chirag Paswan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led tributes, framing the former Union Minister’s life as a standard for public service.

Adityanath praised the Bihar government for elevating the anniversary to a state-level event, noting that the respect accorded to the Lok Janshakti Party founder in Bihar would be mirrored in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that while Paswan’s physical presence is gone, his mission remains active through his son’s leadership. The Chief Minister officially bowed in reverence on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh to mark the sixth anniversary of his passing.

Union Minister of State Anupriya Patel also joined the commemorations, labeling Paswan a champion of social justice who dedicated his career to the Dalit and exploited communities. Patel and her party workers confirmed their attendance at the official memorial event hosted by the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). In Lucknow, Governor Anandiben Patel similarly paid her respects, an act of recognition that Chirag Paswan publicly acknowledged as a meaningful gesture of honor for his father. A veteran of Indian politics, Paswan first entered the Lok Sabha in 1977 and served as a pivotal minister under the Narendra Modi administration.
