The legal action follows a standoff near Jantar Mantar, where police blocked INDIA bloc MPs from marching to protest against Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi, who was detained and taken to Barakhamba Road Police Station, was filmed attempting to breach police barricades during the confrontation. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held at Chhatrasal Stadium Police Station, alleged that security forces utilized excessive physical force against the protesting lawmakers.
This marks the second consecutive day of police intervention involving the opposition. On Tuesday, authorities registered a separate case after protesters entered Akashvani Bhavan without authorization. While the Congress party maintains that these protests are essential to protect the Constitution and demand the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the Delhi Police claim the march lacked necessary permissions and violated public order protocols. Rahul Gandhi signaled that the party remains prepared to face further arrests and litigation to challenge the current administration.
