Jharkhand mourns passing of Rupi Soren

Rupi Soren, the matriarch and mother of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has died, prompting an outpouring of condolences from national leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opposition figures joined the state in mourning the woman long regarded as a symbol of resilience and quiet strength within the tribal community.

Prime Minister Modi remembered Rupi Soren for her lifelong commitment to empowering tribal populations, offering his sympathies to the Chief Minister and his wife, Kalpana Soren. Hemant Soren shared a poignant tribute on social media, reflecting on his mother as his greatest source of refuge following the passing of his father, the veteran leader Shibu Soren. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party characterized her as a pillar of sacrifice who stood firmly by Shibu Soren throughout his decades of political struggle, labeling her death an irreparable loss for the state.

Rahul Gandhi and BRS leader KT Rama Rao also issued statements of support as the state leadership gathered to pay their final respects. Her mortal remains were transported to the Chief Minister’s residence in Morabadi, where supporters and party members assembled to honor her memory. The JMM leadership issued a formal prayer for the family, emphasizing the heavy toll her absence takes on both the Soren household and the broader political fabric of Jharkhand.
