BJP’s Vijayendra Accuses Karnataka Government of Extortion Ring

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra has leveled serious allegations against the state’s ruling Congress, claiming a systematic extortion scheme exists where ministers are pressured to solicit bribes behind closed doors. He demanded that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar identify the influential figures allegedly orchestrating these illicit demands.

Speaking to reporters in Gadag, Vijayendra alleged that the state government is operating a shadow system of corruption. He cited instances where real estate developers were summoned by a high-ranking official, ordered to disable their mobile phones, and told to double their payments from 75 to 150 units. Those who refused were reportedly threatened with expulsion from the state. Vijayendra characterized these methods as a continuation of the Congress party's historical reliance on sting operations and blackmail to consolidate power.

Beyond the corruption allegations, Vijayendra addressed the political landscape regarding upcoming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy regarding a potential BJP-JD(S) alliance but maintained that no formal agreement has been reached. He emphasized that any coalition strategy for local bodies must align with long-term goals for future assembly elections. Furthermore, Vijayendra accused the administration of using intimidation tactics against Hindu activists and party workers, attributing this aggression to the Chief Minister’s growing frustration over his political standing.
