Debbarma’s departure follows a period of significant electoral success for TIPRA Motha, which recently secured 3,428 seats in the long-awaited Tripura Village Committee elections. Despite this dominant position, the leader described his exit as a necessary step to address the personal toll of relentless public service and complex policy negotiations. He maintains that his decision is deliberate and final, though he intends to remain engaged with the concerns of the state’s indigenous population.
Central to his political legacy is the Tiprasa Accord, an agreement he insists must transcend individual parties. Debbarma has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to honor the commitments made within the framework of the accord without further delay. Having built his platform on the principle of “One platform, One voice, One Thansa,” he now shifts his focus toward a quieter life, while continuing to advocate for the rights and dignity of the Tiprasa communities from outside the formal political arena.
