Punjab High Court Halts Corruption Inquiry into Former Aide of Ex-CM

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has intervened in the ongoing street light embezzlement case, issuing a stay on proceedings against Sandeep Singh Sandhu. Sandhu, who served as Officer on Special Duty to former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, argued that the corruption charges were politically motivated and prejudiced his defense.

Justice presiding over the matter directed that all further actions linked to the disputed FIR remain suspended, acknowledging the petitioner's claim that the investigation into the 65-lakh rupee village lighting project was prejudged. The defense maintains that the legal action was launched solely following the 2022 change in state administration.

While this case stalls, federal authorities have pivoted toward a separate investigation involving current leadership. The Central Bureau of Investigation has formally booked six individuals, including Rajbir Ghuman, the current OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The agency alleges a pattern of influence peddling, claiming the accused manipulated postings for IAS and IPS officers and leaked confidential policy drafts to private interests in exchange for financial gain.
