Israel Strikes Gaza as Nation Marks October 7 Anniversary

As families gathered at the Nova music festival site to mourn the victims of the October 7 attacks, the sound of artillery echoed across the border. Israeli strikes hit Gaza City early Wednesday, resulting in two confirmed deaths, including a volunteer rescue worker, just as the third-year commemoration began.

The overnight bombardment struck Gaza City, claiming the lives of two individuals according to reports from Al-Shifa hospital. Gaza’s civil defence identified one of the deceased as Mohamed Tamous, a volunteer operative within the agency’s emergency rescue division.

This renewed violence coincided with dawn services held by relatives of the more than 300 revellers killed during the 2021 Hamas-led assault. The audible impact of the strikes near the festival grounds underscored the persistent volatility of the conflict as the region observes the anniversary of the tragedy that triggered the ongoing war.
