Chugh, who serves as the BJP in charge for Gujarat, alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has systematically plundered state resources to bankroll political activities in states like Goa and Gujarat. Central to his accusations is a claim that the Chief Minister’s office and family members allegedly intervened to facilitate a bribe intended to secure the release of a convicted rapist. Chugh asserted that the entire machinery of the Chief Minister’s office was mobilized to shield the accused, prompting the Punjab and Haryana High Court to mandate a CBI investigation.
The federal agency has since booked six individuals, including public servants and middlemen, following reports from the Enforcement Directorate. On Tuesday, investigators executed coordinated searches across eight locations, including Chandigarh, Mohali, and Ludhiana, focusing on premises linked to the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty, Rajbir Ghuman. While the BJP demands accountability by invoking the anti-corruption rhetoric once used during the Anna Hazare movement, AAP leadership dismisses the raids as a sign of political frustration, accusing the central government of weaponizing agencies to influence upcoming electoral outcomes.
