Chaturvedi targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, asking why the commission remains inaccessible to the Leader of the Opposition and his colleagues. The tension stems from long-standing allegations regarding the commission’s decision-making processes, including controversial changes to Form 6. She argued that avoiding these representatives sets a dangerous precedent, suggesting that constitutional authorities are operating with a level of insulation from public scrutiny that shields them from responsibility.
She further alleged that the commission’s conduct is bolstered by government protection, which she claims allows officials to exercise authority without answering to the Opposition. The Election Commission countered these claims, stating that no formal appointment request was received before 4 pm. When a delegation of roughly 240 MPs eventually sought a meeting, the commission dismissed the move as “unusual,” citing established protocols regarding the venue and the manner in which the request was presented.
