Kejriwal Backs Opposition Call for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

Arvind Kejriwal has thrown the Aam Aadmi Party’s weight behind a widening national protest against the Election Commission, explicitly calling for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The AAP leader argues that systemic manipulation of electoral rolls is undermining the integrity of Indian democracy.

Kejriwal Backs Opposition Call for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

Speaking during a visit to Goa, Kejriwal alleged that the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision drive has become a tool for electoral fraud. He claimed that genuine voters are being systematically purged from rolls while fake entries are added to secure victories for the ruling party. According to the AAP convenor, this practice has reduced the democratic process to a mockery, necessitating an immediate leadership change at the poll panel.

This political friction intensified following a march by INDIA bloc leaders toward Nirvachan Sadan. The Election Commission maintained that no formal appointment was requested by the delegation until 4 pm, labeling the protesters' approach to the meeting as "unusual" regarding established protocol. While the Commission offered to send a senior executive officer to receive a memorandum from the group led by Rahul Gandhi, the proposal was rejected by the Opposition members.
