The resolution, introduced Monday, characterizes the incident on flight FZ1073 as an act of terrorism. It demands a rigorous investigation by Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates authorities, while insisting that the United States and Israel receive full transparency regarding the findings. Reports indicate the assailant, Hamam al-Hammami, was an Omani citizen previously flagged for radical ideological views, raising urgent questions about how he maintained flight clearance.
During the flight last Wednesday, al-Hammami allegedly used a cockpit crash axe to strike Captain Machchhar. As the aircraft plunged 17,000 feet, the injured captain managed to reach the cockpit door, allowing passengers to intervene. Two off-duty pilots eventually took control, landing the jet safely at Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Al-Hammami remains in custody, while Machchhar was airlifted to Abu Dhabi for medical treatment following the encounter.
