Yadav’s allegations center on the misuse of Form 7, an application used to challenge or remove names from voter lists. He cited specific instances where party workers apprehended individuals, including a man named Dashrath, allegedly submitting hundreds of fraudulent forms to purge supporters of the Samajwadi Party and the PDA. Despite filing formal complaints, Yadav claimed the poll body failed to hold any officials accountable, fueling suspicions that the Commission operates under direct BJP influence.
The protest, part of the broader 'Save Democracy' campaign, saw senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staging a sit-in at Akashvani Bhavan after being blocked from the Commission’s headquarters. Rahul Gandhi challenged the Delhi Police to provide an alternative venue if they found the current demonstration inconvenient, asserting the constitutional right to protest. Tensions remain high following reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised 14 objections during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Furthermore, the Supreme Court recently clarified that it had not approved the modified version of Form 6 currently being utilized by the Commission for new voter enrollments.
