Rajasthan BJP Chief Defends Electoral Roll Revision Amid Opposition Protest

Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore has accused the Opposition of manufacturing a false narrative against the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Rathore argued that the exercise is a necessary measure to ensure that voting rights remain exclusive to Indian citizens, rather than foreign nationals employed locally.

Rathore dismissed the ongoing protests as a misguided attempt to undermine the poll panel, emphasizing that the technicalities of the revision, including the use of specific electoral forms, fall under the commission's jurisdiction. He specifically criticized Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, claiming that her early registration as a voter preceded her citizenship, a scenario he suggested the current revision process would prevent.

The controversy escalated on Tuesday as Opposition MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, marched toward Nirvachan Sadan to confront Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Security forces blocked the delegation, prompting a standoff at Akashvani Bhavan. Gandhi accused the government and the commission of stonewalling elected representatives, framing the protest as a critical effort to protect the Constitution. The friction follows reports of internal dissent among election commissioners and ongoing legal scrutiny regarding modifications to Form 6.
