Flávio Bolsonaro Outperforms Father’s Previous Electoral Totals

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has eclipsed the vote totals secured by his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, in both the 2018 and 2022 presidential elections. The Liberal Party candidate outperformed those historical benchmarks by approximately 6.8 million votes nationwide, signaling a significant shift in the family’s electoral reach across Brazil.

The surge in support was most pronounced in Brazil’s Northeast, a region historically dominated by the Workers’ Party. In Ceará, while President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva maintained a lead with 63.22 percent, he saw a dip of 45,000 votes, whereas Flávio added nearly 370,000 to the previous Bolsonaro family tally. A similar trend emerged in Piauí and Bahia, where Lula’s vote counts stagnated or fell as Flávio captured a larger share of the electorate.

Support also solidified in the Southeast. In São Paulo, bolstered by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, Flávio surpassed his father's previous figures while Lula’s support dropped by nearly one million votes. Rio de Janeiro followed this trajectory, delivering 135,000 more votes to the son than it had to the former president. The most dramatic reversal occurred in Minas Gerais, where Flávio flipped a 600,000-vote deficit from 2022 into a victory of similar magnitude. Despite these gains, the Federal District remained an outlier, where Flávio fell short of his father's previous performance by 1,000 votes.
