Omar Abdullah backs INDIA Bloc protest over electoral roll revisions

He pointed to growing judicial interest as a turning point in the opposition's long-standing complaints regarding deleted voter names.

The Chief Minister confirmed that the opposition alliance has established a formal calendar of action following widespread concerns over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Abdullah noted that while these grievances were raised previously, they lacked urgency until the Supreme Court began scrutinizing the process. The coalition plans to observe how the judiciary handles these claims while continuing their broader “Save Democracy” demonstrations.

Tensions peaked after reports emerged that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi allegedly raised 14 objections during the revision exercise, despite the Election Commission of India maintaining that all decisions were unanimous. The controversy intensified this week when the Supreme Court clarified it had not approved the modified version of Form 6 currently utilized for new voter enrollment. Opposition leaders continue to demand greater accountability from the poll panel regarding the integrity of the voter database.
