Pinarayi Vijayan Demands Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner

Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has leveled severe accusations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, questioning his impartiality during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Speaking in Kozhikode, Vijayan asserted that the commission's current leadership is actively undermining democratic processes to satisfy specific political agendas.

Addressing the CPI(M) district committee meeting, Vijayan claimed that Kumar is failing to uphold the responsibilities of his office, alleging a deliberate attempt to purge millions of voters from the electoral rolls. He argued that these actions demonstrate a lack of qualification for the role, branding the commission's conduct as undemocratic and aligned with the interests of the RSS. The controversy stems from the ongoing electoral roll revision, which the veteran leader insists has been manipulated to compromise the integrity of the election cycle.

The two-day gathering at T P Dasan Nagar involves 125 party delegates and senior leadership, including K K Shailaja and V Sivankutty. As the session continues, the accusations against the Election Commission highlight growing tensions between the CPI(M) and central constitutional bodies over the management of voter databases. The meeting is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday evening, with further discussions expected on the party's stance toward the commission's recent administrative decisions.
