Bengaluru Police File FIR Against BJP Agents Over Voter Deletions

Bengaluru police have launched a criminal investigation into two BJP Booth Level Agents accused of orchestrating the mass deletion of 5,698 voters in the Jayanagar constituency. The case follows allegations that the suspects filed thousands of fraudulent applications targeting minority communities and political opponents during recent electoral roll revisions.

The FIR, registered at Jayanagar police station, stems from a complaint by Karnataka Mahila Congress President Sowmya Reddy. Authorities allege that agents Ramakrishna and Yogesh submitted thousands of Form-7 applications—which request the removal of names from voter rolls—between June 16 and October 5. Investigators state the accused forged signatures and misused the identities of local residents to finalize these objections without consent.

This legal action follows mounting pressure from the state government, including a protest led by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. While the ruling party maintains the deletions were a targeted attempt to disenfranchise specific groups, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has dismissed the protest as a political farce, accusing the government of shifting focus from its own administrative failures. Police have invoked several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those pertaining to forgery and election-related offenses, as the investigation into the electoral roll integrity continues.
