JMM MP Hansdak Accuses Election Commission of Voter Disenfranchisement

As the INDIA bloc prepares to march on the Election Commission’s headquarters, Rajmahal MP Vijay Kumar Hansdak has leveled a sharp critique against the body, claiming that the recent electoral roll revision effectively stripped 13 crore citizens of their fundamental right to participate in the democratic process.

JMM MP Hansdak Accuses Election Commission of Voter Disenfranchisement

Hansdak, representing the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, suggested that the criticism of the Election Commission of India now originates from within the system itself. He argued that the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has moved beyond standard administrative procedure, becoming a tool for exclusion that undermines the integrity of free elections. According to the MP, the current climate of scrutiny is the result of long-standing concerns regarding the commission's independence and the specific methods used to manage voter data.

Beyond the commission, Hansdak pointed to a broader pattern of institutional erosion. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has systematically manipulated state processes and deployed security forces to tilt the electoral landscape in its favor. The opposition’s "Save Democracy" campaign, which includes participation from the Biju Janata Dal, aims to bring these grievances to the doorstep of Nirvachan Sadan. For the opposition, the protest serves as a direct confrontation over the alleged arbitrary actions of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the future of institutional neutrality in India.
