Opposition bloc rallies at Election Commission headquarters

Barricades ring the Election Commission of India headquarters as INDIA bloc MPs prepare to march from Parliament today. The demonstration targets Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions, marking a sharp escalation in the opposition’s ongoing campaign against the poll panel’s recent administrative conduct.

Police have deployed multiple layers of security and Rapid Action Force units around Nirvachan Sadan and Vijay Chowk to manage the protest. The opposition claims that Kumar acted unilaterally to alter Form 6, an action they characterize as a systemic attempt to undermine electoral integrity. Biju Janata Dal has joined the alliance in this action, citing the mass deletion of over 13 crore voter names during the Special Intensive Revision process.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh confirmed that the march will commence at 11 AM following an assembly at Makar Dwar. While the protest signals a unified front for many, the Aam Aadmi Party has opted out, with MP Sanjay Singh stating they will pursue their own strategy. This event serves as a focal point for the broader "Save Democracy" campaign, which plans to extend demonstrations to the district level through early October.
