Opposition Bloc Marches on Election Commission Amid Rigging Allegations

Jairam Ramesh has accused the Prime Minister and Home Minister of orchestrating mass electoral manipulation in West Bengal, citing reports that judicial officers flagged functional failures in the Election Commission’s digital portal. The INDIA bloc is now marching to the ECI headquarters to demand the immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Opposition Bloc Marches on Election Commission Amid Rigging Allegations

The Congress leader’s allegations center on the deletion of 27 lakh electors during the Special Intensive Revision process. Official communications from over a dozen appellate tribunal judges in West Bengal reveal that the Commission’s digital portal lacked basic functionalities, including the ability to serve notices, host virtual hearings, or restore wrongfully deleted voters to the rolls. These judges, appointed under Supreme Court mandates, formally reported these systemic hurdles to both the Election Commission and the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

In response to these findings, opposition leaders are converging on Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi. The protest march, which has drawn support from the Biju Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing campaign against the poll panel. Security has been tightened around the Parliament complex and the ECI office as MPs prepare to demonstrate against what they describe as a captured institution. The political confrontation underscores a deepening crisis of confidence in the electoral process, as the Opposition demands accountability for the alleged rigging overseen by the CEC.
