Pezeshkian Rejects US Talks, Citing Repeated Military Aggression

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed future negotiations with the United States as futile, claiming that past diplomatic efforts only invited further military strikes. He argued that Washington’s true objective remains the collapse of the Islamic Republic, rendering any formal dialogue with the current administration inherently deceptive and pointless.

The president’s comments arrive as the conflict, which began in late February following surprise US and Israeli strikes, remains deadlocked. Despite a June memorandum of understanding intended to establish a path toward peace, military operations resumed after Iranian forces targeted shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Recent indirect discussions held alongside the UN General Assembly failed to bridge the divide, leaving both nations entrenched in a cycle of economic sanctions and maritime skirmishes.

While Washington has shifted its strategy from direct air strikes to economic pressure—halting military action since September 1—the situation at sea remains volatile. The British maritime agency UKMTO reported that a tanker was struck on Sunday, while another vessel retreated on Monday after facing threats from Iranian forces. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi maintains that military force and sanctions are incapable of resolving the crisis, insisting that only a framework built on justice and fairness can secure a lasting end to hostilities.
