Paris Trial Opens for Leader of Neo-Nazi Child Abuse Ring

A Paris courtroom went behind closed doors Monday to begin the trial of Rohan Sandeep Rane, a 29-year-old Indian national accused of orchestrating a transnational neo-Nazi network. Rane faces potential life imprisonment for leading a group that allegedly coerced minors into acts of torture, self-harm, and sexual abuse via online platforms.

Investigators identified Rane as the mastermind behind CVLT, a decentralized ring that recruited members from the US, Germany, and New Zealand to target underage girls. The group utilized platforms like Discord and Instagram to groom victims, often specifically selecting children with existing mental health struggles or histories of abuse. Court documents detail a campaign of extreme harassment where victims were forced to carve names into their skin, ingest their own hair, and endure dehumanizing racial slurs.

The operation, which surfaced in 2020 through the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, functioned through calculated extortion. Members threatened to distribute explicit photos to victims' families or stage "swatting" incidents if the girls refused to comply with increasingly violent demands. Some victims were even pressured to attempt suicide on video livestreams. While Rane faces charges of organized extortion and acts of barbarity in France, other associates have already faced justice; Kaleb Christopher Merritt is currently serving a 50-year sentence in the US for his role in the organization. The closed-door proceedings in Paris reflect concerns over the group's history of intimidating witnesses and threatening prosecutors.
