Mishra, a three-time MLA from Rampur Khas, replaced Ajay Rai on October 2 as part of a significant leadership overhaul. Her mandate focuses on booth-level strengthening and maintaining the alliance with the Samajwadi Party, which proved effective during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Alongside her appointment, the party named Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as working president, while Chaudhary Virendra Singh stepped into the role of Congress Legislature Party leader.
Beyond internal restructuring, the state unit is pivoting toward aggressive oversight of electoral integrity. Mishra characterized the protection of voting rights as a constitutional imperative rather than a partisan grievance, citing recent internal disputes within the Election Commission as evidence of systemic failure. She framed the party’s current posture as a continuation of its historical legacy, asserting that the Congress must now secure democracy under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. By integrating senior vice presidents Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad into the leadership team, the party aims to project a unified front capable of challenging the ruling coalition in the upcoming state polls.
