Mayawati Rallies BSP Cadre Amid Electoral Roll Controversy

With nine lakh voters reportedly scrubbed from electoral rolls following the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision, BSP leader Mayawati has ordered her Uttarakhand unit to mobilize on a war footing. The directive aims to restore disenfranchised voters to the registry ahead of critical assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

During a strategy session at the BSP Central Camp Office, Mayawati emphasized the urgent need to reorganize booth-level committees. She tasked local leadership with identifying and rectifying gaps in the voter list, specifically targeting the inclusion of marginalized groups, youth, and women. The party maintains that the current administrative oversight must not strip these populations of their constitutional right to participate in the upcoming democratic process.

Beyond electoral logistics, the meeting served as a platform to challenge the BJP government’s economic agenda. Mayawati accused the administration of prioritizing the interests of wealthy industrialists over public welfare, arguing that financial influence remains a disruptive force in modern campaigning. This critique aligns with broader friction within the political landscape, as the INDIA bloc prepares for nationwide demonstrations against the Election Commission’s recent handling of voter databases and internal dissent among officials.

Meanwhile, the party is shifting its commemorative focus for the October 9 death anniversary of founder Kanshi Ram. Citing safety concerns at the Bahujan Inspiration Centre, Mayawati announced that major tributes will move to the memorial site in Lucknow, while zonal events will be held across other states to maintain the party’s organizational momentum.
