Uttarakhand moves state cabinet sessions to border districts

Pushkar Singh Dhami broke with tradition on Sunday, chairing the first-ever Uttarakhand state cabinet meeting held outside Dehradun. By convening officials at the NHPC complex in Banbasa, near the India-Nepal border, the Chief Minister signaled a shift toward decentralizing governance and addressing the specific needs of the state's remote frontier regions.

Dhami stated that cabinet sessions will no longer remain confined to the capital, with future meetings scheduled across various districts. This strategy aims to bring administrative oversight directly to areas often distanced from policy-making hubs. The Chief Minister emphasized that border villages serve as vital links to national security and cultural identity, necessitating a focus on infrastructure, tourism, and local employment. By engaging with regional priorities on-site, the government intends to accelerate decision-making and ensure development reaches the plains and mountains at an equal pace.

Prior to this regional shift, Dhami participated in a separate organizational review with BJP leadership in Dehradun. Alongside State President Mahendra Bhatt and national vice-president Ram Madhav, he focused on strengthening party infrastructure. Dhami credited the appointment of new leadership, including Madhav and co-in-charges Arvind Menon and Bansuri Swaraj, with providing the necessary momentum to revitalize the state unit.
