Thackeray Cousins Lead Mumbai Protest Against Election Commission

Estranged cousins Uddhav and Raj Thackeray are set to unite at a major protest march in Mumbai this Sunday, leading a coalition of opposition parties against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration targets alleged electoral irregularities and demands the official’s immediate resignation to protect constitutional democratic processes.

The joint appearance of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chiefs marks a rare alignment of the two leaders, intended to amplify public outcry over what organizers describe as the systematic undermining of voting rights. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut framed the rally, dubbed the 'Garjana Morcha,' as a necessary revolt against alleged institutional capture and corruption within the Election Commission. Participants are calling for the annulment of recent Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha election results, citing systemic fraud.

The march is scheduled to proceed from the Metro station to the Municipal Corporation building, where leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi and other allied parties will address the crowd. Beyond the electoral grievances, the protest serves as a broader platform for opposition rhetoric, with speakers intending to address issues ranging from the treatment of journalists in Delhi to the management of national defense programs. Organizers emphasize that the gathering is not restricted to political cadres but is open to any citizen who believes their constitutional right to vote has been compromised. Despite the intensity of the political rhetoric, Raut noted that the event is planned to conclude early to mitigate the impact of the afternoon heat.
