US Expels Iranian Delegates for Overstaying UN General Assembly

Two members of the Iranian delegation were forced out of the United States after failing to comply with a departure order following the UN General Assembly. A US official confirmed the expulsion on Saturday, signaling a firm stance from Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding visa compliance for foreign representatives.

The State Department initiated the removal after discovering the individuals remained in New York well past the conclusion of the summit. According to reports, the US had explicitly instructed Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his team to exit the country by Monday. The mission only admitted the delegates were still present on Friday, prompting immediate action.

One delegate departed late Friday, with the second following Saturday morning. This development unfolds as diplomatic channels remain strained; while President Donald Trump recently dismissed an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, he signaled an expectation for future dialogue. Despite this, IRNA reports that Tehran currently has no further direct negotiations scheduled with Washington.
