Singh characterized his new position as a significant responsibility, confirming plans to meet with Rahul Gandhi to align on the party’s strategic direction for the region. While the leadership transition is immediate, the AICC confirmed that the existing structure of working presidents and election committee chairpersons will remain unchanged to ensure continuity.

Outgoing president Raja Warring stepped down on Friday and formally congratulated his successor. Beyond political transition, Singh—a prominent figure in Indian sports—also celebrated the national hockey team’s success at the 2026 Asian Games, where the men’s squad secured a gold medal with a 5-1 victory over Malaysia. He noted the historic performance of both the men's and women's teams as a positive omen for the country’s future.
