The opposition’s momentum follows reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi logged 14 formal objections over the last 10 months regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. These internal disagreements have fueled broader suspicions regarding the integrity of electronic voting machines and the oversight provided by the Commission.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has characterized the situation as a "do-or-die" fight, accusing the ruling administration of using the Election Commission to undermine the franchise of common citizens. Following a series of detentions during Friday’s demonstrations, Venugopal signaled that the coalition remains prepared for further arrests, framing the struggle as a necessary defense of national democracy.
Protests have already erupted across the country, with activists from the Cockroach Janata Party gathering at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park and student organizations rallying near Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The INDIA bloc has scheduled further actions, including a regional program on October 6 and a major rally in Delhi slated for November 1.
