Congress Overhauls Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Leadership Ahead of Polls

With assembly elections looming, the Congress party has executed a sweeping organizational reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. By installing Aradhana Misra 'Mona' as the new UPCC chief and tapping former hockey captain Pargat Singh to lead the Punjab unit, the high command is aggressively recalibrating its regional campaign machinery.

Aradhana Misra, an MLA and daughter of Rajya Sabha veteran Pramod Tiwari, steps into the role of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president, replacing Ajay Rai. The party’s blueprint for the state also includes the elevation of Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood to Working President, alongside Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad as Senior Vice Presidents. Chaudhary Virendra Singh will now head the Congress Legislature Party. Misra has signaled a focus on alliance dynamics and grassroots outreach, aiming to secure an INDIA bloc victory in 2027.

Simultaneously, the party’s Punjab apparatus underwent a transition as Pargat Singh replaced Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Warring, who had held the position since 2022 following Navjot Singh Sidhu’s tenure, stepped down on Friday. While the leadership at the top has changed, the party confirmed that its existing election-related committees, including working presidents and chairpersons, will maintain their current mandates to ensure operational continuity during the transition.
