Stalin mocks Vijay as 'Reels CM' ahead of Dharapuram by-election

Labeling Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay a "Reels CM" who lacks a true mandate, DMK president MK Stalin launched a fierce campaign in Dharapuram on Friday. Addressing supporters ahead of the October 6 by-election, he urged voters to back DMK candidate S. Suganya to deliver a decisive rebuke to the ruling TVK.

Stalin framed the upcoming poll as a battle for democratic integrity rather than a routine contest. During his address, he drew a stinging comparison between Vijay’s cinematic past and his current administration, suggesting that the Chief Minister is playing the role of a villain to democracy. He further pressed his offensive by categorizing the TVK as a mere branch of the BJP, a political alignment he claimed to welcome as a long-overdue admission of truth.

The DMK leader systematically dismantled the ruling party's record, citing mounting grievances ranging from prolonged power outages and rising electricity tariffs to a perceived collapse in law and order. He pointed to a surge in violent crime and unchecked narcotics distribution, challenging the efficacy of the government’s "Singappen" initiative. Beyond local governance, Stalin accused the administration of failing to secure industrial investments, claiming that capital meant for Tamil Nadu had instead flowed into neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Stalin warned the electorate that a victory for the ruling party would likely trigger further hikes in utility costs and milk prices. He positioned the Dharapuram vote as a proxy for the future of the entire state, invoking the DMK’s legacy of welfare schemes—such as free bus travel for women—to contrast his party's track record against what he characterized as a corporate-style administration. The by-election results for both Dharapuram and Madurantakam are set to be tallied on October 9.
