The security crisis unfolded aboard a flydubai flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to reports, the Omani co-pilot allegedly launched a terror-driven assault on the commander, triggering a rapid descent before a distress signal could be issued. Machchhar fought back against his assailant, receiving critical injuries before passengers and crew intervened to secure the flight deck. All 180 people on board survived the ordeal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally contacted the captain to commend his actions, calling him a source of national pride. BJP MP Tarun Chugh echoed this sentiment, highlighting the pilot's dedication to duty while facing life-threatening danger. India’s envoy to the UAE, Dipak Mittal, confirmed that Machchhar is currently recovering in a UAE hospital. During a bedside visit, Mittal noted that the pilot remains in stable condition and in high spirits despite the trauma of the event.
