Bhopal Hosts 13th Indian Harmonica Festival

Two hundred harmonica players converged at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium in Bhopal on Friday, marking the first time the city has hosted the Indian Harmonica Festival. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the event coincided with the national observances of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti.

The gathering brought together a diverse group of musicians from across the country, ranging from seasoned professionals to young performers. Chief Minister Yadav framed the event within the government’s broader "Virasat se Vikas" policy, emphasizing the preservation of musical heritage as a driver for cultural development. He specifically lauded the performance of young artist Siddhi Soni, noting that her contribution helped elevate the energy of the opening session.

Organized by the Harmonica Association, the festival serves as a dedicated platform for mouth organ enthusiasts to perform and exchange techniques. By moving the event to the capital of Madhya Pradesh, organizers aim to expand the reach of the instrument and provide a stage for regional talent to gain national recognition. The three-day event underscores a growing trend of state-sponsored cultural initiatives intended to highlight niche musical traditions.
