Amarinder Raja Warring exits Punjab Congress helm

As the Congress Party prepares to overhaul its Punjab leadership, outgoing state chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has signaled that AICC state in-charge Sachin Pilot likely orchestrated his removal. Warring, who stepped down after a four-year tenure, claims he has already relayed his final assessments directly to Rahul Gandhi.

Warring’s departure follows persistent reports of internal friction between him and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, a divide surfacing as the party strategizes for the 2027 assembly elections. While Warring lacks formal evidence of Pilot’s direct involvement in his ouster, he noted a lack of communication with the AICC in-charge since their initial meeting. He maintains that his duty concludes with his direct report to Rahul Gandhi, whom he credited with showing him significant affection during their recent transition meeting.

Reflecting on his 2022 appointment—where he succeeded Navjot Singh Sidhu—Warring expressed gratitude for his time in the role. He described his tenure as a memorable chapter of his political career, emphasizing that he accepted the party’s decision without resistance. Following his resignation, Warring and his wife visited Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to offer prayers, signaling a pivot away from the state unit’s internal power struggles.
