In Mumbai, the Cockroach Janata Party staged a high-profile protest, branding the commission's leadership as a threat to democratic integrity. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the dissent as a manufactured narrative, stating that the commission had already addressed and debunked these claims during recent briefings.
The situation in Delhi escalated rapidly as police enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, banning public gatherings. Despite these restrictions, members of the Students’ Federation of India, the Democratic Youth Federation of India, and various opposition figures converged on Jantar Mantar. CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby accused the commission of criminal conduct regarding voter lists, while AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj was detained shortly after arriving at the site. Police barricades and the closure of 11 metro stations underscored the intensity of the standoff, as authorities deployed riot control vehicles to contain the crowds. The opposition bloc has signaled that these demonstrations are merely a prelude to a wider series of protests planned for October and November.
