The Chief Minister’s remarks arrived against a backdrop of mounting tension at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, where activists from the Cockroach Janata Party staged a demonstration. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das leveled sharp accusations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, calling for his resignation and framing the protest as the beginning of a nationwide movement. Police maintained a heavy presence at the site to manage the gathering.
Local residents expressed frustration over the choice of venue, noting that frequent protests disrupt daily life in the area. Sunil Bhagwat, a regular visitor to the park, questioned the civic responsibility of the demonstrators, while another resident, Ravindra, recalled past protests that allegedly choked traffic and caused disturbances near local schools and hospitals. While activists frame these demonstrations as a vital democratic exercise, the surrounding neighborhood is increasingly signaling its fatigue with the repeated disruptions to public space.
