Hanumant Rao Challenges Amit Shah Over OBC Census Ahead of Telangana Visit

Congress leader Hanumant Rao issued a sharp rebuke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, demanding the central government prioritize caste-based census and OBC reservation benchmarks. Ahead of Shah’s scheduled October 4 visit to Telangana, Rao framed the tour as a hollow gesture that ignores the pressing needs of the community.

Rao’s criticism centered on the alleged disparity between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s self-identification as an OBC member and his administration's policy trajectory. According to Rao, the Prime Minister remains beholden to the RSS, claiming that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat effectively dictates the government’s agenda. He argued that the current administration is jeopardizing the future of both students and OBC citizens by stalling on representation mandates.

To amplify these demands, the Congress party plans to mobilize senior leadership in Telangana. Rao confirmed that AICC OBC Department Chairman Anil Jain Yadav, SC/ST in-charge Koppula Raju, and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud will join local MLAs to launch a concerted push for the caste-wise census. Rao asserted that the movement for OBC visibility would originate in Telangana and escalate into a national campaign, mirroring Rahul Gandhi’s vocal advocacy for the issue in the capital.
