Karnataka BJP Denies Allegations of Voter Roll Manipulation

Karnataka BJP president B. Y. Vijayendra has dismissed claims by Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar that the party orchestrated a conspiracy to purge 50 lakh voters from electoral rolls. Vijayendra labeled the accusation a fabrication, asserting that only 25,000 Form 7 applications were filed across the state by various political parties.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Vijayendra clarified that Form 7 is a standard mechanism for challenging illegal entries in voter lists, a process accessible to all political entities. He emphasized that the authority to verify and remove names rests solely with Block Level Officers and Assistant Returning Officers, officials currently operating under the state’s Congress administration. He challenged Shivakumar to substantiate the claim that the BJP specifically targeted Dalit, minority, and backward class voters, calling the rhetoric a diversionary tactic.

Beyond the electoral dispute, the BJP leader accused the state government of manufacturing controversy to distract from pressing administrative failures. He cited the ongoing drought, internal allegations of ministerial corruption, and the state’s precarious financial position as the actual drivers behind the Chief Minister's recent statements. Vijayendra vowed that the party would contest any FIRs filed against its members in court, maintaining that the accusations are an attempt to intimidate political opponents rather than a genuine concern for electoral integrity.
