The project represents a significant shift for the Romanian energy landscape, utilizing a high-voltage grid connection to channel renewable power into the national supply. Beyond its generating capacity, the development functions as a regional economic engine. Over the next three years, construction is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs, providing a substantial boost to the local labor market in a region designated for cohesion support.
EIB Vice-President Ioannis Tsakiris emphasized that the investment serves as a blueprint for aligning climate goals with regional development. The financing, supported by the InvestEU program, anchors a complex funding structure that includes two 15-year Contracts for Difference for 520 megawatts of capacity. Remaining output will be directed toward commercial and industrial agreements, ensuring a diverse revenue stream for the developer.
Rezolv Energy’s Head of Financing, Jan Viton, noted that the EIB’s commitment was the critical piece required to finalize the transaction. The site design also integrates an 82-hectare nature restoration zone, which will return lower-quality agricultural land to pasture. By utilizing sheep grazing to manage vegetation and support wildlife habitats, the developers intend to combine large-scale power production with ecological recovery.
