Trump’s America.gov AI Chatbot Retracts Election Fact-Checking

A day after its launch, the White House’s new AI platform, America.gov, abruptly stopped answering questions regarding the 2020 presidential election. The move followed a series of initial responses where the chatbot utilized official government records to contradict Donald Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud and election interference.

The platform, introduced by the administration to streamline access to federal services, initially functioned by anchoring its responses in documented facts. When queried about the 2020 election results, the system previously stated that federal assessments found no fraud on a scale capable of shifting the outcome. This candor drew immediate praise from Democratic lawmakers, including Senator Adam Schiff, who highlighted the chatbot’s acknowledgment of Joe Biden’s victory as a rare moment of objective clarity from the current administration.

By Wednesday, the chatbot’s programming shifted. When prompted with identical questions about election integrity, it refused to engage, citing a new policy against providing political commentary. While the White House declined to explain the change, a spokesperson maintained that the site would continue to provide accurate federal resources. Despite the pivot on elections, the AI continued to challenge other administration talking points, specifically refuting claims that the U.S. experienced record-breaking inflation during the 2021–2025 period by citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
