INDIA Bloc Vows Nationwide Protests Against Election Commission

The opposition alliance is shifting to a confrontation strategy, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announcing a series of nationwide demonstrations. Starting October 2, the bloc will launch a "Save Democracy March" at the district level, culminating in a planned protest at the Election Commission headquarters on October 6. Leaders also intend to present their grievances regarding institutional integrity to President Droupadi Murmu later in October.

Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the collective focus of the coalition transcends individual political ambitions. He pointed to a growing sentiment among the youth that recent electoral processes require urgent scrutiny. This sentiment was echoed by Mamata Banerjee, who escalated demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the current administration of manipulating electoral mechanisms. With assembly elections in five states looming in 2027, the opposition is signaling a prolonged period of legislative and street-level agitation.
