Mamata Banerjee Targets Election Commission Ahead of INDIA Bloc Summit

The opposition coalition is set to convene on Wednesday to coordinate a nationwide protest against alleged electoral irregularities. Central to their grievances is an investigative report suggesting Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded 14 separate objections over a ten-month span regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. While the Election Commission dismissed claims of internal dissent, asserting that all SIR decisions received unanimous approval, the political fallout continues to widen.

Simultaneously, the Congress party has intensified its pressure, with the Congress Working Committee formally demanding the immediate resignation of the CEC. During a meeting at the All India Congress Committee headquarters, leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge called for the suspension of the current electoral roll revision process. Congress claims that 13 crore 30 lakh names have been selectively deleted from rolls, framing these actions as a broader attempt by the RSS-BJP to compromise the integrity of the democratic process through administrative capture.
