Smriti Irani Accuses Congress of Undermining Constitutional Institutions

Irani dismissed the Congress party’s criticism of voter list revisions as a desperate maneuver to distract from electoral losses. The BJP leader questioned why the opposition would advocate for the retention of invalid data, challenging them to apply their scrutiny consistently across states governed by non-BJP coalitions.

Escalating the rhetoric, the Congress Working Committee formally demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. This move follows media reports detailing 14 procedural objections raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The Congress party is now calling for an immediate halt to these revisions and the reinstatement of 13 lakh voters reportedly removed during the process. Irani countered these claims by invoking the party's historical origins, labeling their current posture against constitutional bodies a shameful departure from democratic norms.
