Congress demands restoration of 13 crore voters amid electoral row

During the Congress Working Committee session, party leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi resolved to challenge what they describe as the RSS-BJP capture of the electoral process. General Secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized that the party’s stance is one of active resistance, aiming to reverse the effects of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted across 30 states and Union Territories. The party argues that this exercise resulted in the unauthorized removal of millions of voters, demanding the immediate suspension of the revision process.

The political friction follows investigative reporting that highlighted internal friction within the Election Commission, where Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi reportedly raised procedural objections on 14 separate occasions. While the Election Commission maintains that all decisions regarding the SIR were reached through unanimous internal consensus, the opposition remains unconvinced. Beyond the administrative overhaul, the Congress leadership is now calling for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, as well as the Prime Minister and Home Minister, citing these electoral irregularities as a fundamental threat to the nation’s democratic mandate.
