World Uyghur Congress Plans October 1 Protests in Istanbul and Berlin

In Istanbul, activists plan to gather at 11 am outside the Chinese Consulate General in the Sarıyer district. The event will feature a formal press statement addressing the organization's claims regarding the occupation of East Turkistan and the treatment of Uyghur communities. Later that afternoon, between 4 pm and 6 pm, the organization will collaborate with partner groups for a separate protest outside the Chinese Embassy in Berlin to show solidarity with those affected by Beijing's regional policies.

These demonstrations arrive during ongoing international pressure concerning the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. While the United Nations and various advocacy groups have documented allegations of arbitrary detention, forced labor, and restrictions on religious expression, Beijing maintains that its actions are necessary measures to curb extremism, terrorism, and separatism. The October 1 protests serve as a platform for activists to reaffirm their demands for cultural and political autonomy, directly challenging the state's narrative regarding the stability and governance of the region.
