Country Director Takafumi Kadono noted that while Papua New Guinea has achieved greater economic stability, the persistent challenge remains translating resource extraction into broad-based prosperity. The bank’s strategy centers on strengthening public financial management and oversight of the resource sector, ensuring government revenue is effectively directed toward essential health, education, and social services.
Infrastructure improvements will focus on transport, energy, and agricultural logistics to bridge the gap between isolated communities and regional markets. Alongside these physical upgrades, the strategy emphasizes vocational training and secondary education to equip the workforce for a diversified labor market. By integrating initiatives like the ADB Wayfinder and Frontier Seed programs, the bank intends to catalyze private investment while simultaneously addressing critical social issues, including the prevention of violence against women and the enhancement of disaster resilience.
