Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway Navigate a Web of Deception in Verity

Lowen Ashleigh finds herself tasked with completing the book series of Verity Crawford, who remains incapacitated following a severe accident. What begins as a professional assignment at the Crawford family home quickly devolves into a psychological minefield. Inside the house, Ashleigh discovers a private manuscript that threatens to dismantle everything she believes about the family she is meant to serve.

Dakota Johnson, who portrays the lead, described the project as a blend of erotic tension and sharp-edged thrills. She found the descent into moral ambiguity refreshing, noting a personal interest in exploring darker, more villainous roles. Opposite her, Anne Hathaway takes on the titular role of Verity, while Josh Hartnett plays her husband, Jeremy. Hartnett praised the performances of his co-stars as the engine of the film, noting that the script invites viewers to pick apart the morality of every character involved.

Director Michael Showalter leaned into the unsettling atmosphere of Hoover’s source material, which the author oversaw closely, even appearing in a cameo. The production aims to challenge the audience's perceptions of truth and agency, moving away from traditional hero-villain tropes. The film is scheduled for a global premiere on September 30.
