Poltava Polytechnic Reopens Renovated Facility Amid Wartime Challenges

The project serves 2,888 students and 86 staff members, providing a secure environment for 1,422 simultaneous users. Funded by a €1.75 million grant from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P), the 20-month renovation transformed the facility into a modern hub featuring specialized laboratories and computer centers. Beyond classroom capacity, the building now houses a shelter capable of protecting more than 400 people, ensuring that coursework can persist even during active alerts.

Accessibility remains a core pillar of the update, with new ramps and tactile navigation systems installed to support students with disabilities. Simultaneously, the integration of automated heating controls and advanced metering aims to lower long-term operating costs. This renovation is part of a broader €10.8 million EIB-backed initiative covering ten buildings across the campus. Education Minister Andrii Butenko emphasized that maintaining academic progress is vital for the country’s future, noting that universities must evolve to provide necessary skills despite the ongoing conflict. EU Ambassador Katarína Mathernová echoed this, framing the investment as a strategic step toward building a modern, resilient education system aligned with Ukraine’s European integration.
